Sleep is a necessity, not a luxury. However, we’re all busy and often sleep is the first thing to go when trying to get it all done! Poor and insufficient sleep has been linked to depression, heart disease, cancer, weight gain, impaired memory and more. Here are some reasons to get good sleep.
- Lack of sleep makes you feel hungry. That’s because the hormone that tells our brains we’re hungry increases when we don’t sleep enough. And the hormone that tell us we are full decreases with lack of sleep.
- Lack of sleep may make you gain weight. Studies show adults who sleep fewer than 6 hours a night are at a much higher risk of being overweight or obese than people who sleep enough.
- Lack of sleep may cause stress. When we don’t get sufficient sleep our bodies release the stress hormone cortisol which makes us crave high-fat, high carbohydrate foods.
Take the extra time to plan out your day and make sure you leave enough time for at least 8 hours of sleep every night.
